Jeremy is twenty-two months old today, and unabashedly wearing his toddlerhood. His gleeful squeals are louder than ever, his laughter more infectious, his tears perfectly crocodile-sized, and his pout as effective as his Mama Nay's. His curiosity in how things work and go together in the world is exploding, and sometimes exceeds his own comfort level. I often have front-row seats to witness his simultaneous obsession and mild fear of new things like the RoboRaptor at the Discovery Channel store, the scene in the Jungle Book when Sherkahn the Tiger is stalking Mowgli, and squiggly worms. Yesterday, he ventured into a Bouncy house for the first time, and, after accidently colliding with a little girl's knee and sobbing to the highest heaven with snot streaming from his nose, he begged to go back in. And he did. And he squealed with glee!
Asthma continues challenge Jeremy's well-being. His sleep has been disrupted for the last couple of weeks, maybe because of the smoky air quality from the seasonal fires here in California. So far, we believe that cold and flu bugs are a trigger for his asthma. Luckily, allergies to the animals and house dust and mold have been ruled out. Not a moment too soon, we have an appointment with a pulmonologist next week to continue our investigation.
Meanwhile, Jeremy's imagination flourishes as he creates conversations between his toy giraffe and his unicorn finger puppet in his own private language, seeks out every on/off switch within reach, and experiments with the percussive quality of objects -- both living and not -- whenever he has a stick in his hand.
