Twenty Three Months

Just one month shy of two years old! Our funny little boy is full of surprises and smiles that gain amperage every day. Tonite I came home from work late after a particularly aggravating week. Just as I walked in the front door, Jeremy saw me and shrieked with glee and ran down the hall towards me with his smile as wide as his open arms. As every parent knows, it's hard to beat the sweet feeling of a kiss from your kid after a day at the salt mines.

Jeremy may not use many words yet, but his comprehension is growing daily. Just this morning, I learned that his appreciation of prepositions has reached a new level of sophistication. We were playing the daily "game" that begins just when he is done with his meal, and he swings his right leg out to the side of his booster seat, and up, and then parks his heel on the edge of the table. As usual, I calmly said, "Please take your foot off the table." Every time before this morning, he dutifully and equally calmly dropped his foot. But this morning? He raised his foot up higher! Accompanied by that 2500 watt smile! I had to physically restrain myself from laughing out loud, but I couldn't suppress an appreciative smirk. And then I calmly said, "Please put your foot under the table." And he did, repaying me with a silly smirk of his own. What a comic.

This month, Jeremy rode his first pony, said "school" much to his mothers' delight, began a Kindermusik class, locked himself in a closet, discovered the joys of wind-up toys, and figured out the remote control for the car doors. Jeremy prefers the happy side of Halloween. He thumps every straw scarecrow we pass (which all seemed to be adorned with big grins and really aren't very scary these days), makes friends with silly ghosts (including the one that giggles on our front porch when people walk by), and drives the grocery store employees crazy with his endless joy over the hip hop Frankenstein monster. (Hey, it's their fault that they stock a product with a big fat "Try Me" button right as you enter the store.)
