The Kid is Happy!

The advice of the day from child development experts is that the best thing you can do for kids in the 21st Century is prepare them for change. Part of my angst over the unstable child care stems from my truly wonderful 1960s-era memories of staying home with my mom until I was four, with an occasional babysitter who was a grandparent or a close family friend. But, if change is the name of the game for the youngest generation, Jeremy has it mastered, and maybe I should chill out. Except for some obligatory, momentary clinginess and crying when I left Jeremy on his first day at Ms. Wendi's Family Day Care, he quickly made friends with Arjen and Jordan and Julia (or Ju-Ju) and fit right in with the play group as if he has known them for, oh, say 14 months! The space at Wendi's is simply wonderful. It is colorful with the kids' art all over the walls and several fun play areas and the Letter and Number of the Month posted near the table where Jeremy sits on a chair like the big kids to eat his breakfast and lunch. Natural light floods the space when the kids are inside, and Wendi takes them to a nearby park every day weather permitting. Jeremy finished three art projects on his first day, and began another in progress! Wendi places a premium on the chemistry between her kids and had been a little hesitant to fill her opening for fear of upsetting the vibe. But the instant she met Jeremy she knew he was a match, and it has proven to be true. Jeremy comes home happy, well-fed, and secure. Some things happen for a reason.

Blessed be.
