Halloween 2006

It began dubiously, with Jeremy EXTREMELY resistant to putting on his costume. The Pooh suit was big, cuddly, and so soft that Jeremy has mistaken it for a blanket, clutching to his cheek. When we tried to slip it over his head, physical and verbal protestations made the task difficult. The suit consumed him.

Luckily, the suggestion that Jeremy might be able to see a ... SCARECROW ... stopped the cries and got his feet moving out the door. We went next door to Elaine's, where he happily thumped on the straw-chested manniquin. Then we showed him how to hold out his trick-or-treat bag and look cute (a fall back since he can't say "trick or treat"), and he watched in amazement as Elaine and Bill dropped in some candy! Being the quick study, he turned on his heels and marched right across the street, past the graveyard and two rats eating a severed arm, and right up to Jean and Jon's door and thrust out his sack with anticipation. Ten more times he did this, as we canvassed our little neighborhood. Maybe in twenty years he'll walk precincts with the same enthusiasm in a future campaign for a worthy candidate or cause.

After he collected a respectable cache of loot, we returned home to hand out candy to other ghouls and goblins. Jeremy eagerly doled out the treats to each guest, unfazed by the demonic and deadly faces that showed up as the age of the trick-or-treaters rose. Jeremy was so enthusiastic about giving candy away that, at one point, he went out on the porch and yelled at some kids on the opposite side of the street, beckoning them over!

In the end, Jeremy did not want Halloween to end. I think he is hooked! From Pooh to you and your family, Happy Halloween!
